FLY FISH THE WEST
A guide to fishing in Treasure Valley.
Why Idaho
The Treasure Valley is a playground where the dessert plains of the west crash into the jagged Sawtooth Mountains forming some of the deepest river canyons and valleys in the country. This rugged terrain keeps the population density down and the river pressure manageable, resulting in clean waterways and hungry fish, eager to smash a fly. Idaho is rich with fish diversity ranging from anadromous species, Salmon and Steelhead to Spring creek Brook Trout and native Yellowstone Cutthroats. There is a technique and practice for all types of water and approach. The dry fly purist and euro nymphing fanatics can be at home on the South Fork Boise River alike and the two handed switch and spey chuckers can find magic on the big waters of the Salmon and Clearwater River in search for famous, Unicorn B-run Steelhead. If high alpine terrain and hiking to a remote location is your choice, the Sawtooth and Whitecloud ranges are loaded with lonely lakes plentiful with cutties, anxious to eat after the ice breaks. There is over 100,000 miles of Crystal Clear water in Idaho “snaking'“ it’s way towards the Columbia river and eventually out to the Pacific Northwest.
Needless to say, there is a lifetime of water to keep any angler motivated to explore.
